Report: EU may prolong anti-Russian sanctions on June 21
MOSCOW, Jun 14 (PRIME) -- The E.U. is slated to decide on prolongation of anti-Russian sanctions on June 21, Agence France Presse (AFP) reported Monday citing diplomatic sources.
The decision will be approved at a meeting of the E.U. foreign ministers on June 24, a source said.
The next discussion of the sanctions will take place in the second half of 2016, he said.
The Financial Times reported earlier in June citing sources that the E.U. will likely extend sanctions against Russia for further six months.
In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated to their worse since the Cold War due to a military conflict in Ukraine. The West introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and firms and further against the energy and banking sectors. In response, Russia limited food imports from some countries, including the U.S., the E.U., Canada, Australia, and Norway.
